Directed and executive produced by Megan Reyes, Between Two Worlds: The Documentary is a visual sequel to her award-nominated podcast of the same name. This short film is about discovering heritage as Megan visits her homeland for the first time, the growth of soccer in the Philippines, and the impact of the Philippine women's national team.

Between Two Worlds: The Documentary is more than a film — it’s my quest to self-identity, a love letter to my heritage, and a bridge connecting Philippines football to the world. As a first-generation Filipino-American who grew up oceans away from my parents’ home, I often felt like I was living in between worlds — not fully Filipino, not fully American. This short documentary film was created from the desire to reconcile that feeling and finally step foot on the soil and sands of my ancestors. The ability to do so through the lens of football is why it’s called ‘the beautiful game’.

It began as a podcast of the same name, connecting identity and belonging through football, and it transformed into this visual representation of discovery. Traveling to the Philippines for the first time was emotional, educational, and ceremonious. During my time there I learned that the football culture in the Philippines is alive and well and the impact of the Philippine women’s national team’s success is undeniable. I also learned about the grassroots efforts in place to create a pathway for homegrown Filipino players to hopefully one day play on the world stage. 

I want viewers to walk away from the film with a renewed perspective on why we love the game of football and the opportunities it provides to all people, regardless of where they were born or their socioeconomic status. Between Two Worlds: The Documentary is a celebration of heritage, sport, and identity. It’s for anyone like me who ever wanted to know more about where they come from — and what it means to finally find the answers.

Megan Reyes is a sports marketing professional turned award-winning host and multi-hyphenate creative passionate about growing soccer through stories of identity, culture, and belonging. She is currently the in-stadium host for San Diego Wave FC (NWSL) and partners with the world’s top brands, including Nike, Google, adidas, Coca-Cola and Capital One.

In 2023 Megan was a recipient of the Hashtag Sports Creators of Color award for her impactful work amplifying diverse audiences in sport.

A first-generation Filipino-American, Megan has an inherent curiosity for exploring identity. In 2023, she wrote, co-produced, and hosted Between Two Worlds, a narrative podcast examining the Filipino-American experience in parallel with the Philippine women’s national team’s journey to the country’s first-ever FIFA World Cup. The project gained earned media from BBC, CNN, and NBC and was a Best Storytelling finalist for the 2023 North American Soccer Business and Media Awards. She directed and executive produced a visual spin-off of the podcast, Between Two Worlds: The Documentary. The short documentary film is about discovering heritage, the growth of soccer in the Philippines, and the impact of the Philippine women's national team.

Between Two Worlds: The Documentary is an entirely self-funded film and was brought to life by a team deeply passionate about heritage and culture, bringing a combined 25+ years experience in sports and visual storytelling. Megan intentionally built a post-production team of all Filipino creatives, another gesture in showcasing Filipino talents to the world.

Evan Bledsoe served as Director of Photography and is a Part 107 licensed drone operator. As Megan's partner, Evan was on the ground throughout the three-week journey in the Philippines, capturing every moment with intimacy and intention. Evan’s aerial work has been featured on digital and linear channels for HGTV, IHG Hotels, EA Sports and more.

A.J. Calomay is the film’s Producer and Editor. Over the past two decades, A.J. has worked across both scripted and unscripted projects for major studios including Disney, NBC/Universal, Warner Brothers, USA Network, MTV News, Microsoft, and Fandango. His editorial credits span acclaimed series such as Mr. Robot, Hunters, Invasion, Dave (FX), Reservation Dogs (FX), You (Netflix), Kung Fu (CW), New Amsterdam, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Covert Affairs, and the feature film Speed Racer. He also edited a special project celebrating the 10th anniversary of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. He also produced and edited Lumpia with a Vengeance, a Comic-Con favorite now streaming on Tubi.

Camille Rodriguez is the film’s Co-Producer. Camille (Cam) is a proud Filipina footballer, history-making national athlete, and budding mental performance coach and storyteller. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Cam is a 20+ year veteran of the sport and strives to grow women's football in the work she does and stories she tells. Cam is the co-founder of Ribbon Sports, a Manila-based media company telling stories of Filipino athletes and athletic culture.

Chris Snellings, Audio and Sound Editor, is an Emmy Award-winning video editor for the Golden State Warriors. Chris’s previous credits also include Script Supervisor, Sports Choreographer, and Post-Production Supervisor for the independent film Bola at Buhay.

Melanie Lim, Assistant Editor, contributed her technical and creative eye. Her past work spans across Riot Games, Jubilee Media, and projects for Netflix, Amazon Studios, and Apple TV.

Jose “Jay” Acuña V, Additional Editor, is a Los Angeles–based video editor and motion graphics artist with over 15 years of experience in post-production. His diverse portfolio includes collaborations with leading brands like Porsche, Lexus, and Toyota, contributions to the Emmy Awards, "React" on Youtube's People vs Food (ZATV), and the indie film Lumpia with a Vengeance starring Danny Trejo. Jay also provided video coverage for the Philippine Independence Day Council Incorporated celebration in New York.
